MY FAVOURIT DRESS.
I was wearing a white pant and white shirt from the age of 16 in 1961 until the age of 39 in 1984. This dress had become an identity mark for me and people used to call me as "white and white" Kannan. I got the inspiration to wear this dress from our cricketers in those days.
After many fervent requests made by my best half, in 1984, I switched over to safari suits in a light colour. Then, I was nicknamed "safari" Kannan by my friends. I continued to wear this dress until 2000. However, my longing for white and white remained at the core of my heart.
In 2001, when I suffered a near bankruptcy, I went back to my original colour of white and white. But this time, it was just 2-metre white dhoti and white half slack instead of pant and shirt. I have been wearing this dress in all places including the US and I receive great respect.
Now I am thinking of switching over to saffron colour dhoti and half slack which my wife is ardently objecting to. I am trying to convince her and I am confident that one day she will accede to my request sympathetically. May be my friends then call me as "saffron" Kannan.

1961ல் 16 வயதில் இருந்து, 1984ல் 39 வயது ஆகும் வரை நான் வெள்ளை நிறத்தில் முழுக் கால் நிஜாரும், சட்டையும் தான் அணிவது வழக்கம். இந்த உடை எனக்கு ஓர் அடையாளக் குறியாக மாறி என் நண்பர்கள் என்னை "வெள்ளை" கண்ணன் என்று கூப்பிடுவார்கள். அந்தக் காலத்தில் கிரிக்கெட் வீரர்களைப் பார்த்து எனக்கு இந்த உடை மீது விருப்பம் வந்தது.
1984ல் என் அன்பு மனைவியின் விருப்பத்தின் பேரில், நான் மெதுவான கலரில் "சபாரி" ஸூட் அணிய ஆரம்பித்தேன். அதனால் என்னை "சபாரி" கண்ணன் என்று கூப்பிட ஆரம்பித்தார்கள். 2000 வரை ஆறு வருடங்கள் இந்த உடையை நான் அணிந்தேன். இருந்தாலும் வெள்ளை உடையில் இருந்த என்னுடைய விருப்பம் அடி மனத்திலேயே இருந்தது.
ஒரு சந்தர்ப்பம் வரக் காத்திருந்த நான், 2001ல் எனக்கு மிகப் பணத் தட்டுப்பாடு வந்த பொழுது, மறுபடியும் வெள்ளை உடைக்கு மாறி விட்டேன். ஆனால் இந்த முறை வெள்ளை நிறத்தில் 4 முழ வேட்டியும், அரை கை சட்டையும் அணிய ஆரம்பித்தேன். எங்கு போனாலும், அமெரிக்கா உட்பட, இந்த உடையைத் தான் அணிந்தேன். அதற்குத் தனி மதிப்பு இருந்தது.
இப்பொழுது நான் காவி நிறத்தில் 4 முழ வேட்டியும் அரை கை சட்டையும் அணியலாமா என்று யோசிக்கிறேன். ஆனால் என் மனைவி இதற்கு எதிர்ப்புத் தெரிவிக்கிறாள். அவளை சமாதானப் படுத்த முயல்கிறேன். முடியவில்லை. ஒரு நாள் என் விருப்பத்தை இரக்கத்துடன் ஏற்றுக் கொள்வாள் என்று நம்புகிறேன். அப்பொழுது என் நண்பர்கள் என்னைக் காவிக் கண்ணன் என்று அழைப்பார்கள் என நினைக்கிறேன்.
