THE MERCY OF THE LORD

Recently, I read an interesting story that brought tears in my eyes. I wish to share the same with you.

Droupathy was so proud of her devotion to Lord Krishna. She thought that no one on earth could have more devotion towards Lord Krishna than her. The Lord wanted to show her that there were many people who showed devotion to Him equal to that of  Droupathy.

When she was in the forest for 14 years, the Lord visited her one day. Droupathy found Him tired and she did not see His chariot also. When she asked Him, He said He came by walk all the way to see her. Droupathy was so pleased and told Him that she would prepare dinner for Him and in the meantime, He could take bath in hot water to relieve tiredness. 

The Lord agreed. Droupathy asked Bheema to prepare hot water. Bheema took a large vessel, fetched water in the vessel from the nearby river and started boiling it on mud Owen. Even after hours of boiling, the water remained cool without getting hot. Droupathy and Bheema were surprised and they informed the Lord about the wonder.

Then the Lord asked Bheema to pour the water out and to empty the vessel. Bheema did so. At that time, a small frog leaped out of the vessel and escaped. Then the Lord asked Bheema to fetch fresh water and to boil it. Within minutes the water became hot. Both Bheema and Droupathy were surprised and asked the Lord the reason.

The Lord told Droupathy that the small frog which was caught inside the vessel was praying to Him in all earnestness to save him from dying out of the boiling water. So He had the duty to save His disciples who seek His mercy. That is why I requested the Agni not to heat the water to save the frog. Droupathy was ashamed to learn about the devotion of a small frog towards the Lord.

சும்மா இருந்தா எப்படி ?

அந்த அழகிய கிராமத்திற்கு ஒரு முனிவர் வந்திருந்தார். ஊருக்கு மத்தியில் இருந்த மரத்தடியில் அமர்திருந்தார். யாருமே ஊரில் அவரைக் கண்டுகொள்ளவில்லை.

முனிவர் கோபத்தில் சாபமிட்டார். "இன்னும் 50வருடங்களுக்கு இந்த ஊரில் மழையே பெய்யாது வானம் பொய்த்துவிடும்" இந்த சாபம் பற்றி கேள்விப்பட்ட அனைவரும் என்ன செய்வது என்று தெரியாமல் கவலையோடு அவரின் காலடியில் அமர்ந்து மன்னிப்பு கேட்டனர்.

சாபத்திற்கு விமோசனம் கிடையாது என்று கூறிவிட்டார் முனிவர். வேறு வழியின்றி அனைவருமே அவரின் காலடியில் அமர்ந்து இருந்தனர்.

மேலிருந்து இதைக் கவனித்த பரந்தாமன் தனது சங்கினை எடுத்து தலைக்கு வைத்து படுத்துவிட்டான் (பரந்தாமன் சங்கு ஊதினால் மழை வரும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை). இன்னும் 50 வருடங்கள் மழை பெய்ய வாய்ப்பில்லை என்பதால் இனி சங்குக்கு ஓய்வு என்றே வைத்து விட்டான். அந்த ஊரில் ஒரு அதிசயம் நடந்தது.

ஒரே ஒரு உழவன் மட்டும் கலப்பையைக் கொண்டு தினமும் வயலுக்குச் சென்று வந்து கொண்டிருந்தான். அவனை அனைவரும் பரிதாபமாகவே பார்த்தனர். மழையே பெய்யாது எனும்போது இவன் வயலுக்கு போய் என்ன செய்யப் போகிறான் என்ற வருத்தம் அவர்களுக்கு. அவனிடம் கேட்டே விட்டனர். நீ செய்வது முட்டாள்தனமாக இல்லையா என்று.

அதற்கு அவனின் பதில்தான் நம்பிக்கையின் உச்சம். 50 வருடங்கள் மழை பெய்யாது என்பது எனக்கும் தெரியும். உங்களைப் போலவே நானும் உழுதிடாமல் இருந்தால் 50 வருடங்கள் கழித்து உழுவது எப்பிடி என்றே எனக்கு மறந்து போயிருக்கும். அதனால்தான் தினமும் ஒருமுறை உழுது கொண்டு இருக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

இது வானத்தில் இருந்த பரந்தாமனுக்கு கேட்டது. அவரும் யோசிக்க ஆரம்பித்தார். 50 வருசம் சங்கு ஊதாமால் இருந்தால் எப்பிடி ஊதுவது என்று மறந்து போயிருமே என்றே நினைத்து சங்கை எடுத்து ஊதிப் பார்க்க ஆரம்பித்தார். இடி இடித்தது, மழை பெய்ய ஆரம்பித்தது. நம்பிக்கை ஜெயித்து விட்டது

தெய்வத்தால் ஆகாது எனினும் முயற்சிதன் மெய்வருத்தக் கூலி தரும். SELF CONFIDENCE NEVER FAILS. வெற்றி நிச்சயம்..!!

166. When we walk in the dark, we do not close our eyes just because we are not able to see. Actually, we observe more closely. It applies to difficult situations in life also.

167. There must be consumer awareness not to buy and store a product when its price is high but to buy a product more and use it when its price is low.

168. When others contact us over the phone, we should only listen to them. We should not make use of the opportunity to tell them our never-ending stories.

169. It is said, the thread that tied the flowers also get the fragrance of the flowers. Nowadays, the flowers tied by a thread also get the rotten smell of the thread.

170. One has to study a lot to have high knowledge about religion. Once he acquires that knowledge, he will only keep silent. That is the beauty of knowledge about religion.

171. Fools talk nonsense to be in the limelight. If we do not ignore, they will continue to talk nonsense and will be in prominence.

TELEPHONE BILL / டெலிபோன் பில்

The house owner was surprised to see that the telephone bill was very high.

He told his wife, how the bill can be so high? I make all the calls to my friends and relatives from my office. I think you have made many calls.

His wife replied, I too make all my calls from my office. I do not make any call from here. I think the bill is high because our son should have made all the calls to his friends.

Their son told them, that he too made all his calls from his office only and that he did not make any call from home. He said I have seen the maid moving around the telephone many times.

The maid told them why do you find fault with me. As you all make phone calls from your work place, I also make my calls from my work place. What is wrong in it? Everyone fell silent.

ஆனால் அவர் மனைவியோ தானும் தான் வேலைசெய்யும் இடத்தில்தான் போன் பேசுகிறேன்.. நம் மகன் அவனது நண்பர்களிடம் பேசியதால் பில் அதிகரித்திருக்கலாம் என்றார் அவர் மனைவி..

மகனோ எனக்கும் நான் வேலைசெய்யும் கம்பெனியில் போன் உண்டு அதிலிருந்துதான் நான் போன் செய்கிறேன் என்றான். நம் வீட்டில் வேலை செய்யும் பெண் டெலிபோனை சுற்றிவருவதை பார்த்திருக்கிறேன் என்றான் மகன்..

வேலைக்காரியோ, என்னை எதற்காக திட்டுகிறீர்கள் உங்களைப்போல நானும் வேலை செய்யும் இடத்திலிருந்துதான் என் நண்பர்களுக்கும், உறவினர்களுக்கும் போன் பேசுகிறேன் என அவர் கூறியதும் அனைவரும் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்தனர்..!

BIRTHDAY SPECIAL

This morning, Sunday 28th April, I was reading the newspapers in my room. My son came into my room and inquired whether we could go for a movie and dinner in the hotel to celebrate his birthday falling on 30th. Normally, we celebrate a special day on the previous Sunday if it falls during the week.

He did not tell me, nor I inquired about the details and I readily agreed. I give more importance to going out as a family than for the details. Immediately, Rice Pongal and chutney were prepared for breakfast. We started at 10 AM after finishing our morning rituals and breakfast. It was a Telugu movie staring staring 'natural star' Naani. I do not know what the word 'natural' meant.

The story was about the life of a Hyderabadi Cricketer. Since I do not know Telugu, I could not understand the dialogues. There was no subtitles also. I was just wondering why on earth in any movie about Cricket, the hero is always a great batsman and not a bowler or fielder or a wicketkeeper.

After the movie was over, we went to our favourite restaurant 'Chutneys' in Banjara Hills and had lunch to our heart's content. The food was always tasty there. Everyone was happy and we returned home by 3 PM. Of late, though the mind is willing, my body is unable to cooperate and withstand the strain of going out for five long hours, missing my daily nap for an hour at 11 AM.

RANDOM THOUGHTS 151 TO 165

151. Corns are hard, painful areas on the feet due to pressure/friction. Pumice stone, a light volcanic rock, is used for removing corns.

152. People say income minus expense is savings. For me, it is different. It is income minus savings is expense. Hope you got my point.

153. Show maximum love until 5, teach and train until 15, treat as a real friend until the wedding, is my way of bringing up my children.

154. Among a couple, if one is emotional and the other is an intellectual, then it is balanced. If both are same, there may be problems.

155. Deafness helps me not to object, argue, fight, interfere, intervene, advice, dispute, comment, criticize, condemn. A real blessing.

156. Status is important for possession. A beggar cannot own a BMW. Raise your status to acquire or renounce the desire and stay calm.

157. Dogs are friendly with humans but fight with dogs. The humans are friendly with dogs but fight with humans. Who has a sixth sense?

158. Bamboo is flexible, bending but never breaking up. It is resilience. We have to bounce back even from the most difficult times.

ARE YOU VEXED?

In deference to the wishes of a good friend, who suggested sometime back, that I would write an article on "vexed". I am now trying my level best to fulfill his wish.

Vexed means annoyed, frustrated, worried and irritated. People get vexed for various reasons. Mostly a person gets vexed whenever he takes things in a negative sense.

Vexation comes when a person is deprived of money or when his children desert him or when he has bad health. Other than these three reasons, a person gets vexed only due to his negative attitude.

Some people get vexed even for minor reasons. If they do not get as many likes for their posts on FaceBook, they get vexed. This is too bad. They cannot be sure that everyone likes their post.

It is unhealthy to get vexed frequently. It leads to hypertension, ulcer, and depression. Why should we invite such problems unnecessarily? Be happy always. Live in the present. Do not worry about the future.

Problems always come which one cannot avoid. One has to be matured enough to accept life as it comes. Despite best efforts, bad happens. Life has to go on. Accept and move ahead and leave everything to God. May God bless you.

JUST FOR THE KNOWLEDGE

1. SUNLIGHT.

Sunlight contains Ultra Violet rays UVA and UVB. The UVA rays are less and they create cancer. UVB rays are plenty and they produce Vitamin D3 under the skin. Only the areas of the skin exposed to sunlight produce the vitamin. The ideal time is between 11 AM to 1 PM. 

Vitamin D3 helps in the metabolism of calcium, phosphates etc and for bone strength. It is a blessing for people living in tropical countries. People in cold countries have to take vitamin D supplements due to lack of sunlight. The normal daily requirement for an adult is 600 IU and for senior citizens 800 IU.

2. WHEN TO TAKE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE LOWERING MEDICINES?

Some studies suggest that blood pressure pills taken at night might improve blood pressure and prevent more heart attacks and strokes than taking the same medications during the day. 

They also were about one-third as likely to have a heart attack or stroke or to develop heart failure, as those who took morning pills. However, please consult your doctor also.

3. FODMAP diet

A diet restricted in Fermentable Oligo- Di-Monosaccharides and Polyols (FODMAP) now have an evidence base sufficiently strong to recommend its widespread application in conditions such as IBS [Irritable bowel syndrome] and IBD [Irritable bowel disease]. 

If You click fodmaps in google, you will get the list of food prohibited and suggested. The most important food to be avoided is onion, garlic, wheat products [gluten] and lactose.

4, MOST AUSPICIOUS DAYS.

There are 4 important Tithis which do not require any muhurtam, since each of the entire tithi is considered good. Any important work like wedding etc. can be done on these tithis. These are:

    1 Chithirai Shukla Prathamai.

    2 Akshya Tritiya

    3 Vijaya Dasami

    4 Kartikai Shukla Prathamai.

However, Rahukalam, Yamagandam and Gulika Kalam should be avoided even on these tithis.

THE SOUL

I have a passion for writing. I write for the pleasure of it. I write for the beauty of the language. It is my baby and I deliver it. I find unique pleasure in it.

Every writer has a trick up his sleeve. That keeps his readers with him. Narration is my trick. It means describing an incident sequentially. It is tight rope walking. One has to tread step by step to reach his destination.

I want you to read my passage for its contents and for the beauty of the narration. While reading, please see whether I have properly explained the situation in order.  

If you are happy after reading, appreciate with a few words. That is the solace for my mind. I don't need anything else. Your appreciation is my motivation. 

Everyone knows Tamil writer Shri. Sujatha. But no one knows him personally. They know him only through his writings. He has captivated his readers by sheer excellence in writing.

I  want you to remember me for my words. I want you to be motivated by my writing. I want you to be inspired after reading. That is my success. That is what I want you to find in me. THE SOUL.

CATS NEAR THE KITCHEN

​My wife loves cats. She is soft hearted towards them. This may probably be due to the number of cats her mother was nurturing in her maternal home. Every day at 6 AM, two cats, mother, and child, regularly come near our kitchen. Not even a single day passed without their arrival. 

On hearing their call, my wife served them milk separately in two cups. After drinking the milk, they fled the scene. Whenever my wife sits in the lawn, they passionately come near her and cuddle with her. They moved in between her legs and showed their love by making sweet noises. How cute they are !!!

MY FRIEND IND - SUZUKI

In 1984, when TVS group announced booking for their 100cc two-wheeler Ind-Suzuki, my father booked for one paying Rs.500/- He then left us in 1985 and reached the abode of God. In 1986, the offer came from the company. I was 41 then.

                

Though I was not financially sound to accept the offer, I had sentimental feelings that it was booked by my father and I should somehow manage to get it. The cost was about Rs.12000/ and with additional fittings, it came to Rs.15000/ I took a loan and got the vehicle registered.

It was my pride possession and I never allowed anyone to touch it. It was maroon in colour with Regn.No.TCT 3620. Excepting the two tyres and two mirrors, all parts were made in Japan. I rode the vehicle for 20 years until 2006 when I was 61. Then I sold the vehicle since I developed hearing problems.

   

Even after serving me for 20 years, I could sell it for Rs.15000/- since it was in immaculate condition giving 60 kms per litre of petrol. A vehicle was more than a friend to anyone and I still long to see my friend.

While I am on the subject, I wish to narrate an incident that happened while I was in my vehicle. One day, I was driving the vehicle to Anna Nagar from T.Nagar after meeting a friend. It was past 10 pm. I crossed Mahalingapuram and turned left towards Loyola college.

I saw a woman and a man searching for something in the dark in the nearby bushes. I stopped my vehicle and inquired. The woman explained that they were waylaid by miscreants at knifepoint. They escaped with their valuables and threw the key of their two-wheeler into the bushes.

I thought I would have been the victim if I had come earlier. I helped them to retrieve the key and they left the scene after thanking me. It was a lesson for me and thereafter I never went out on two-wheeler during the night after 8 pm either alone or with my wife.

மனதில் தோன்றிய எண்ணங்கள் 1261 TO 1275

1261. தெரிந்து மிதித்தாலும்,தெரியாமல் மிதித்தாலும் மிதிபட்ட எறும்பிற்கு வலி ஒன்றுதான். மிதித்தவனுக்குத்தான் எறும்பினுடைய வலி தெரிவதில்லை

1262. நினைப்பது போல் வாழ்க்கை எல்லோருக்கும் அமைந்து விடுவதில்லை. அழகாய் அமைந்த வாழ்க்கையைக் கூட, சிலருக்கு சரியாக வாழத் தெரிவதும் இல்லை.

1263."சந்தோஷமா வாழறேன்"னு காட்டிக்கொள்ள பணம் தேவைப்படுகிறது. உண்மையில், சந்தோஷமா வாழ பணம் ஒரு பொருட்டே இல்லை என்பதும் கேள்விக்குரியதே.

1264. நோய் வரும் வரை அளவில்லாமல் உண்பவன், நோய் வந்தபிறகு, உடல் நலமாகும் வரை எதையும் உண்ணாதிருக்க வேண்டி வரும்.உணவு கட்டுப்பாடு அவசியம்.

1265. பணம் சம்பாதிப்பது, குண்டூசியால் பள்ளம் தோண்டுவது போல. கஷ்டம். ஆனால் பணத்தைச் செலவழிப்பது, குண்டூசியால் பலூனை உடைப்பது போல. சுலபம்.

1266. நீங்கள் சம்பாதித்த பணத்தின் மதிப்பு தெரியவேண்டுமா? செலவு செய்யுங்க.உங்கள் மதிப்பு தெரியவேண்டுமா?யாரிடமாவது கடன் கேட்டுப் பாருங்க.

1267. புண்ணியம் கிடைக்கும் என்று நினைத்துப் பிச்சை போடுவது கூட சுயநலமே.வலது கை கொடுப்பது இடது கைக்குக் கூட தெரியக்கூடாது. அதுதான் தானம்.

1268. அனுபவம் ஞானத்தை தருகிறது. அனுபவத்தால் உணரவேண்டிய ஒன்றை ஆயிரம் தத்துவ ஞானிகளாலும் உணரவைக்க முடியாது.தீயின் சூடு தொட்டால் தெரியும்.

1269. வாழ்க்கையைக் கற்றுக்கொள்வதில் குழந்தை போல் இருங்கள். அதற்கு அவமானம் தெரியாது. விழுந்தபின் அழுது, பிறகு திரும்ப எழுந்து நடக்கும்.

1270. திருமணம் என்பது, ஒரு ஆண் நல்ல கடந்தகாலம் கொண்ட பெண்ணையும், ஒரு பெண் நல்ல எதிர்காலம் கொண்ட ஆணையும் வாழ்க்கைத் துணையாகத் தேடுவது.

1271. முன்னே செல்பவனை விட்டுவிடுங்கள். பின்னால் வருபவனிடம் கொஞ்சம் எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருங்கள். அவனால்தான், உங்களை முந்திச்செல்ல முடியும்.

1272. மீண்டும் முகம் பார்த்து பேச வேண்டியிருக்கும் என்ற காரணத்திற்காகவே நம்முடைய பல கோபங்கள் தற்கொலை செய்துகொள்கின்றன. தவிர்க்க இயலாது.

1273. தவறான வழியில் சம்பாதித்த பணம் பெரும்பாலும் கோயில் உண்டியல்களுக்கு தான் வருகிறது. அது நேர்மையான வழியில் செலவழிக்கப்படுவதும் இல்லை.

1274. பகலில் தூக்கம் வந்தால், உடம்பு பலவீனமா இருக்கென்று அர்த்தம். இரவில் தூக்கம் வரவில்லை என்றால், மனசு பலவீனமா இருக்கென்று அர்த்தம்.

1275. தன்னை நல்லவராக காட்டிக் கொள்வதற்காக, அடுத்தவரை கெட்டவராகச் சித்தரிக்கும் எவரும், நீண்ட காலம் நல்லவர் வேடத்தில் இருக்கவே முடியாது.
