மந்திர தந்திரம்.

ஒரு குறுநில மன்னரிடம், ஒரு பிராமண மந்திரி வேலை பார்த்தார்.அவர் மிக புத்திசாலி. அவரது மேதாவிலாசத்துக்கு அவர் தினமும் சொல்லும் காயத்ரீ மந்திரமே காரணம் என்பதை மன்னர் அறிந்தார். 

தனக்கும் காயத்ரீ மந்திரத்தை உபதேசம் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று மந்திரியை தினமும் மன்னர் நச்சரிக்கத் துவங்கினார்.ஆனால் மந்திரி மறுத்துவிட்டார். 

அந்த மன்னரிடம் வேறு ஒரு பிராமணர் சமையல்காரராக வேலை பார்த்துவந்தார். அவரை மன்னர் அழைத்தபோது,அவருக்கும் காயத்ரீ மந்திரம் தெரியும் என்பதை மன்னர் அறிந்தார். மிரட்டியும் லஞ்சம் கொடுத்தும், காயத்ரீ மந்திரத்தை அவரிடம் கற்றுத்தேர்ந்தார். 

ஒருநாள் அரசவையில் எல்லோருக்கும் முன்பாக மன்னர், தனக்கும் காயத்ரீ மந்திரம் தெரியும் என்று சொல்லவே, மந்திரி வியப்புடன் அதைச் சொல்லும்படி மன்னரிடம் வேண்டினார். மன்னர் கம்பீரமாக மந்திர உச்சாடனம் செய்தார். 

மந்திரியோ அது காயத்ரீ மந்திரம் இல்லை என்று சொல்லிவிட்டார். மன்னர் உடனே சமையல்காரனை அழைத்து காயத்ரீயை சொல்லச் சொன்னார். இதுதான் காயத்ரீ என்று மந்திரி சொன்னார்.

அதைத் தானே நானும் சொன்னேன் என்று மன்னர் சொல்ல,அது காயத்ரீ மந்திரம் இல்லை என்று மந்திரி மீண்டும் கூறினார்.மன்னருக்கு ஒரே ஆத்திரம். ஒருவேளை மந்திரிக்கு மனக்கோளாறு போல என்று எண்ணினார்.

மன்னரின் மனதில் என்ன எண்ணம் ஓடுகிறது என்பது மந்திரிக்குப் புரிந்தது. திடீரென்று மந்திரி சேவகனைப் பார்த்து, “ஏ சேவகா! மன்னர் கன்னத்தில் பளார் என்று இரண்டு அரை கொடு” என்றார். எல்லோரும் திகைத்து நின்றனர். மீண்டும் மந்திரி அதேக் குரலில் அதே உத்திரவைச் சொன்னார்.

சேவகன் ஒன்றும் செய்யவில்லை. மந்திரிக்குப் பைத்தியம் பிடித்துவிட்டதென்று எண்ணியிருந்த மன்னர், கோபத்தோடு, "ஏ சேவகா! மந்திரி கன்னத்தில் பளார் என்று இரண்டு அரை கொடு” என்றார். சேவகன் ஒரு நொடி கூட தாமதிக்காமல், மந்திரியின் கன்னத்தில் இரண்டு அரை விட்டான் 

"மன்னரே! இதுதான் வித்தியாசம்.நானும் ஒரே கட்டளையைத் தான் இட்டேன். நீரும் அதே கட்டளையைத் தான் இட்டீர். நீர் சொன்னவுடன் என் கன்னத்தில் இரண்டு அரை கிடைத்தது. நான் சொன்னபோது ஒன்றும் நடக்கவில்லை. சொல்லக்கூடாதவர் சொன்னதால் எனக்கு தண்டனை கிடைத்தது.

"இதுபோலத்தான் சில மந்திரங்களும். சொல்லக்கூடாதவர், சொல்லத் தகுதி இல்லாதவர், சொன்னால் எதிரிடை விளைவுகளை உண்டாக்கும். ஒரு மந்திரம் என்பது சப்தங்களின் தொகுப்புதான் என்றாலும் தகுதி உடைய ஒருவருக்கு, சாஸ்திர விதிகளின் படி, ஒரு குரு சொல்லும்போதுதான் அது மந்திர ரூபம் பெறுகிறது. 

இதனால்தான் புத்தகத்தில் இருந்து கற்கும் மந்திரங்கள் பலன் தருவதில்லை. இதை அறியாததால் மந்திரங்களைக் குறைத்து மதிப்பிடுகின்றனர்.தகுதி உடைய ஒருவர்கூட, சாஸ்திர விதிகளின்படி மந்திரங்களைச் சொன்னால்தான் பலன் கிடைக்கும். 

அப்படி இருக்கையில்,தகுதி இல்லாதோர் விதிமுறைகளைப் பின்பற்றாதவாறு மந்திரங்களைச் சொன்னால், நல்ல விளைவுகளைவிட எதிரிடை விளைவுகளைத்தான் எதிர்பார்க்கலாம். மந்திர விஷயங்களில் சாஸ்திரங்கள் சொல்லுவதைத்தான் நாம் பின்பற்ற வேண்டும்

MUSIC AND ME

Music is divine. It gives solace to the troubled mind. There are so many health benefits of music. It's heart-healthy. Research has shown that blood flows more easily when music is played, elevates mood, reduces stress, relieves symptoms of depression, stimulates memories, eases pain, helps people eat less, helps people in works endurance, makes the baby sleep, and so on.

Next to reading books and writing articles, I love listening to music. Lilting is the correct word to be used. It is characterized by a rhythmical swing, a spirited and cheerful song or tune. It gives a swing, flow, or cadence.

I am a music addict. My wife, daughter, and granddaughter are good singers. Some of my relatives are good singers. I love listening to good music. If I get a tune early in the morning, I go on humming it for the whole day. It may belong to any genre, classical or movie songs in any language. I spend an hour a day listening to good music.

My favorite singers are GNB, MLV, Sudha Ragunathan in Carnatic music, and Mohd. Rafi, and Kishore Kumar in movie songs. I like other singers also who have a good voice. GNB, MS, DKP, Semmangudi, Chembai, and Maharajapuram developed their own style of singing. But I like the fast-paced style of GNB.

Elderly people say that they like only old movie songs and not new songs. The younger generation says that they like only the new songs and not the old ones. Both of them are wrong and they should realize that both types are good and they should try to enjoy both instead of disliking the other.

Some people say that they are able to enjoy only Carnatic music and movie songs in their mother tongue. That is not the correct view. If we know the lyrics, we can appreciate the meaning. But music is different. Most of the Carnatic songs are in Telugu and we enjoy them without even knowing the meaning. If we are particular about the meaning, we will only be missing the abundant soulful music available around our nation.

I am 77 and I go with the trend. I like all types of songs. To enjoy a song, I give importance to three aspects.

1. The voice of the singer must be unique and beautiful.

2. The tune must be different and melodious.

3. The lyrics must be clear and audible.

The present-day movie songs are totally based on the western type. Unlike the old songs, the tune is almost the same but only the voice modulation is different. Moreover, the stereo recording makes it even worse. So, I pick up only those songs which are different and melodious.

I have the Spotify app installed on my iPhone by my daughter. It is the most popular and cheapest music app in the world with about 894K membership and the premium membership is about Rs.200 Per month which can be shared by 6 people. I am included along with the four members of my daughter’s family.

I have downloaded more than 450 songs that run for nearly 30 hours. I have 21 playlists viz. Classical, SD Burman, Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, AM Raja, TMS, PB Srinivas, Chandrababu, Sid Sriram, Armaan Malik, Arjit Singh, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Tamil old, Tamil, Tamil new, English, and My pick.

Whenever I listen to a melodious song or see a classical movie or write a good article, I do not know why instantly I get an adrenaline rush to share it with the person whom I love the most. But unfortunately, all are busy and no one is interested.

PRICING OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS

What determines petrol and diesel prices and why does it change every day?

First, the cost of crude oil, second the taxes the Centre and states impose. There's also dealer's commission and VAT that gets added before it's sold to the consumer. Petrol and diesel are expensive, primarily, because of the central and state taxes, otherwise, they would be much cheaper. Taxes on fuels is a huge revenue generator for the government, and it's a tough decision for the governments - Centre and states - to cut it to reduce fuel prices.

As for the everyday change in fuel prices, it's because of a dynamic pricing system that reflects fluctuations in the global oil market. Earlier petrol prices were revised every fortnight, meaning that unlike now, the prices changed on the 1st and 16th of every month. However, on June 16, 2017, a new scheme was implemented under which prices were to be revised every morning at 6 am. This shift from administrative price mechanism (APM) to dynamic pricing was done to ensure that the benefit of the smallest change in international oil prices can be put into effect by dealers. Moreover, the move was made keeping in mind that it would prevent huge leaps in prices at the end of the fortnight.

One of the crucial differences between APM and dynamic pricing is price decontrol. Before dynamic pricing was implemented, private companies protested government-controlled pricing saying that it reduced their profitability. It also impacted competition, leaving consumers with little choice. On the other hand, market pricing not only allowed competition, it was also supposed to benefit the consumers and bring parity with international product prices. It was also believed that dynamic pricing would keep speculative market forces in check. When prices changed fortnightly, it led to speculation about the fluctuation of prices leading consumers to behave accordingly. 

Since India imports 84% of petroleum products, any change in the global crude oil prices significantly impacts the prices in the country. If the global crude prices are high, then India too procures it at a high rate. For instance, Indian Oil Corporation would then pay refineries an amount on each litre of fuel, selling it after that to dealers at a higher rate than it paid refineries. Additionally, excise duty, dealer commission and VAT are added to decide on the retail price.

Taxes

One of the most important factors is the tax levied by the state and central governments. As of now, fuel has been kept outside the purview of Goods and Services Tax (GST). It has been a common practice in the past to cut duties when global crude prices increased. However, since 2014, the government has been found increasing excise duty even as global prices fell, leading to an increase in the central government's revenue.

Currently, petrol is taxed at a little more than 100 per cent, while it amounts to 66.48 per cent on diesel. Interestingly, while the retail prices have gone up, the price at which the fuel is sold to petrol pump dealers has come down drastically since 2013. The government's effective tax rate on petrol in 2013 was at around 43 per cent and presently it is a little over 100 per cent.

According to the Ministry of Finance's revenue collection estimates, the Centre expects to collect more than Rs 2.579 lakh crore by levying taxes on petroleum products by the end of this fiscal. This is a massive jump from the gross revenue collection of around Rs 88,600 crore in 2013/14. In the last fiscal the collection was Rs 2.016 lakh crore.

It essentially means that the strength of the local currency against the US dollar vastly impacts the prices. Rupee, currently, stands at Rs 71.56 against the dollar dictating the rise in fuel prices.

மனதில் தோன்றிய எண்ணங்கள் 1726 TO 1740

1726. எதுவும் நமக்கு சொந்தமில்லை. நாம் இறந்த பின் எந்த பொருளையும் எடுத்து செல்ல முடியாது. ஒரு பொருளை தவிர. அதுதான் நாம் செய்த தான தர்மம்.

1728. பகவான் கிருஷ்ணன்: குளிர்ச்சி நீரின் இயல்பு. வெப்பம் நெருப்பின் இயல்பு. உலகில் எல்லா உயிர்கள் மீது அதிக கருணை காட்டுவது என் இயல்பு.

1731. நல்லதோ கெட்டதோ, ஒரு விஷயத்தை அறிந்த பிறகு அது எவ்வளவு தூரம் உண்மை என்று நன்கு விசாரித்த பிறகே வேறு ஒருவரிடம் சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

1732. பணமில்லாத ஒருவனை யாரும் அனாதை என்று சொல்வதில்லை. ஆனால் உறவுகள் இல்லாத ஒருவன் எவ்வளவு பணம் வைத்திருந்தாலும் அவன் ஒரு அனாதை தான்.

1733. உங்களை யாரும் புறக்கணித்தால் தயவுசெய்து அவரைத் தவறாக நினைக்காதீர்கள். ஏதோ ஒரு சூழ்நிலை. அது அவருக்கு மட்டும் தான் தெரியும்.

1734. நான்  வயதானவன் . பழமையான எண்ணங்களைக் கொண்டவன். என்னுடைய குழந்தைகளுடன் பழகிப் பழகி தற்கால எண்ணங்களை மிக நன்றாகப் புரிந்து கொண்டவன்.

1735. ஒரு வயதில் விரும்பியதை பத்து வயதில் விரும்புவதில்லை. அறிவு வளர்ச்சி ஒரு பயணம். நடுவில் நின்று விட்டால் ஏதோ கோளாறு என்று அர்த்தம்.

1736. நான்கு மாதங்களுக்கு ஒரு முறை நன்கு திட்டம் போட்டு ஒரு பத்து நாள்,சுற்றுலா இடமோ, உறவினர் வீடோ சென்றால் சந்தோஷம், மன அமைதி உண்டாகும்.

1737. நம் நாட்டில் கலைச் செறிவு மிகுந்த கோவில்களும் அழகான இடங்களும் லக்ஷக் கணக்கில் இருக்கின்றன.ஆனால் நாம் எப்பொழுது பார்க்கப் போகிறோம்?

1738. ஏழை தன்னிடம் உள்ள கொஞ்சம் பணத்தை பிறருக்கு உதவக் கொடுக்கும் பொழுது சிறிதும் யோசிப்பதில்லை. ஆனால் பணக்காரன் அதிகம் யோசிக்கிறான்.
