My Generation!

We, the people born between 1950-and 1989...are the blessed ones...We are the awesome people... Our life is a living proof..........

 While playing and riding bicycles, we never bothered to wear helmets.

 After school time we played until its dusk but never watched t-world (TV).

 We played only with our real friends, not with NET friends.

 If we ever felt thirsty, we used to drink tap water but never searched for bottled water.

  We never got ill even after sharing the same juice with four friends.

 We were never put on weight even after eating plates full of sweets and rice every day.

 Nothing happened to our feet even after roaming barefoot.

 We never used any health supplements to keep ourselves healthy.

 We used to create our own toys and play with them.

  Our parents were not rich, they never ran behind money and wealth. They just searched for and gave only love.. not any worldly materials.

  We never used to share our emotions just by emoticons on mobile phones.

 We used to listen to the truth and voice of our conscience and used to write those things only in the letters, hence we never used to change our words.

 We never had cellphones, DVDs, Play stations, XBoxes, video games, Personal computers, the internet, or chat but we had many real friends.

  We used to visit our friend's homes uncalled and enjoyed food with them. We never had to call them and ask their permission to visit their home.

  Relatives were near to us so our hearts and souls were happy. Hence we never required any insurance policy.

 We may have been in Black and White photos but you can find good colourful memories in those photos........

Last is the ultimate

 We are a unique and the most understanding generation because we are the last generation who listened to their parents.... and also the first who have to listen to their children.

1111. Senior Citizens are unwilling to live in the US and the younger generation is unwilling to leave the US, purely due to the lifestyle there.

- ROAD HYPNOSIS starts 2.5 hours after getting on the road, the eyes of the hypnosis driver are open, but the brain does not record and analyze what the eye sees.

1082. When a person talks to me, I can easily find out his intentions and what type of person is he by observing his look, body language and his words.

1083. How much the children love a parent or hate them is the result of 28 years of upbringing. No point in crying over the spilt milk.

CIGARETTE SMOKING

Smoking cigarettes is a bad habit apart from using snuff, drinking alcohol and chewing pan-Parag. Among the four, using snuff is outdated. Drinking alcohol and chewing tobacco come later in life. 

But smoking comes mostly during the teenage or adolescent period. Mostly it is induced by a friend who is a smoker and who needs company.

At a young age, without knowing the consequences, a person gets into this bad habit and suffers lifelong. He finds it very difficult to leave the practice and only a few with willpower can succeed.

Actually, when the first cigarette is smoked, a small quantity of nicotine is added to the blood which causes slight dizziness that makes the smoker enjoy. 

When the nicotine content in the blood goes down, he gets an urge to smoke again and levels the nicotine in the blood to enjoy the dizziness. Thus the number of cigarettes increases day by day as also the nicotine level.

In the 60s, a friend of mine was a smoker of Wills brand cigarette which was about 12 annas [75 paise] per packet of 10. Now I understand it costs about Rs.100 per packet of 10. 

Assuming a person smokes a packet a day, the cost comes to Rs.3000 pm. which can easily meet the provision for two people per month. Many people tried to reduce the number of cigarettes to leave smoking but they miserably failed. 

To leave the habit, one must know:

1. The financial impact.

2. The consequences of smoking.

3. To what extent it will affect others financially?

4. Effects of Passive smoking.

It is impossible to leave the habit little by little. One must have the willpower to stop it abruptly. 

RANDOM THOUGHTS 1066 TO 1080

1066. Problems can be compared to a  peanut. It is insignificant. If you keep it near your eye, it will look huge. If you keep it away it will look small.

1067. For 70 years, India and Pakistan are fighting over the Kashmir issue incurring heavy losses. Can you suggest a viable and permanent solution?

1068. Inflation has gone up due to corruption and black money. Can you suggest how corruption and black money be eradicated?

1069. At present, parents have no other option but to accept love/inter-caste/inter-religious marriages if their wards are to be married on time.

1070. I am 77. I am a conservative when dealing with 60 plus, a modernist when dealing with below 40 and either of the two when dealing with 40 to 60.

A person should be able to self-assess what type of bride or groom will suit his/her requirement/temperament. Expecting what is not suitable for him/her will definitely delay their marriage.

A BURNING PROBLEM

Previously, the men were working and the women were looking after the household work. After retirement, the boys' parents stayed with their son as a matter of right since they educated him, they had a right over his earnings, and he was their legal heir.

Presently, the women are also equally educated, employed and earning. Her parents also feel the same way as their counterparts. After retirement, they also want to settle with their daughter since women are now eligible for an equal share in their father's property.

So he said, I am a traveller.

But the old lady replied, “No, you cannot be a traveller. In this world, there are only 2 travellers the Sun and the Moon. Both Rise and Set every day and keep travelling perpetually.

Thirsty Kalidasa said, “Alright then, treat me as a guest.”

The old lady promptly replied, “No you cannot be a guest, son. In this world there are only 2 guests Youth and Wealth both are temporary and do not stay even if you plead with them a million times, and hence can only they be called as guests.”

WHO ARE YOU? Thirsty but now quite intrigued with the profoundness of this old lady, Kalidasa said, “I am a TOLERANT Person, mother. 

Now the old lady replied, “You don’t quite look tolerant, young man. 

In this world, only 2 truly know the meaning of Tolerance. 

Bhoomi (Earth) and Tree. How much ever you stamp the earth or throw stones at the tree (for the fruits), both continue to nurture us.”

With unquenched thirst, Kalidasa was increasingly becoming irritable. He said, “Fine then, consider me a Stubborn Person 

The lady smiled and said, “No my child, you are not that stubborn.

There are only 2 truly stubborn personalities *our nails and our hair. We keep cutting them non-stop, but they continue to grow.”

Kalidasa had been patient so far, but now in anger, he said, “Alright, I am a Fool”. 

Now the lady gave a wide smile and said, “There are only 2 kinds of fools in this world 

A King who rules without having any capability or knowledge & a Minister* who is a sycophant to such a King and lavishes praises on such a useless king.”

WHO ARE YOU? Kalidasa realised that he had been outsmarted by an old illiterate village woman. Incomplete awe and humility, he fell at the feet of the lady, saying,

“O, mother! How ignorant I was to think that I know myself.

I am ashamed of myself. Pardon my ignorance.

Show mercy, and grant me water, I beg of you. When he touched her feet and then got up, whom did he see?...

EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN

I am for women’s education and empowerment but not for employment. Empowerment means the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one's life and claiming one's rights.

In my view, there is no point in going for regular jobs, working at the discretion of someone for a meagre salary. It does not empower women in any way. The women should be on their own and set an example for others.

At home, there are various avenues for them to take care: 1. Educating their children.2. Finance management.3. Home management. 4. Undertaking tuitions.5. Doing handicrafts, and artificial jewellery. 6. Gardening. Etc

My daughter is bold and beautiful. After completing her education, she did not prefer a job. She wanted to be independent. She had a passion for teaching. Initially, she started teaching music. Then she started teaching subjects, including public speaking.  Now she runs her own Academy in the US, coaching hundreds. 

My daughter-in-law is humble and pious. Hailing from a small town in Tamilnadu, she too wanted to be independent. She had a passion for business and gardening. Initially, she started making artificial jewellery at home. Then she started her own boutique shop. Now she runs a shop in a busy area of Hyderabad selling items that are required for the ladies. She also maintains a vegetable garden at home.

Taking care of their home and health is important. Passion and perseverance are important. Motive and hard work are important. Getting the support of other family members is important. This is called the empowerment of women.

GLORIFYING THE MOTHER

It is heartwarming to see people writing daily about the Mother, Maa, or Mom, etc. in social media glorifying her to the maximum. They are so captivated by the mother. But I feel for the father who may just smile but the mother feels elated.

Many do not realize the value of the father. Father's role is a thankless one. He is much adored when earning, ignored on holidays, and ill-treated after retirement. A man is respected until he earns and the mother until she works.

The mother satiates the hunger but the father cares about acquiring knowledge. Its importance will be known only later in life. In addition, he insists on rules, character, discipline, education, etc which are unwelcome. So the mother is more glorified.

After retirement, the father, wishing to give some rest to his wife, takes her to his son's house. The daughter-in-law, unable to cope with the stress due to her children, education, employment, finance, domestic chores, ill-health, etc. expects the mother-in-law to contribute. Then the father, sympathizing with his wife, takes her to their daughter's house. The same situation prevails there and the daughter also expects her mother to contribute.

The most important point to be noted here is how the Mother feels about the two. She is happy to help the daughter but not the daughter-in-law. She feels that her daughter-in-law is enjoying her life with her son, whereas her daughter is suffering at her place. This feeling of partiality by the Mother is the root cause of all the problems in the world. 

The whole Universe will be happy only if the mother considers both her daughter and her daughter-in-law as equal. Then there is real meaning in GLORIFYING THE MOTHER.

1786. விவாதிப்பது எனக்குப் பிடிக்கும். அது ஆரோக்கியமானது. ஆனால் எதிர்த்துப் பேசுவது பிடிக்காது. அது அநாவசியமாக மனஸ்தாபத்தை உண்டு பண்ணும்.

1799. உச்ச நீதி மன்ற தீர்ப்பை விமரிசனம் செய்யும் அளவுக்கு நமது நாட்டில் அறிவு ஜீவிகள் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பது ஒரு ஆச்சரியமான விஷயம் தான்.

IS IT PLEASURE OR PAIN?

People who have completed their duties in educating their children and getting them married may be under the impression that our responsibility is over and we can lead a happy retired life with our grandchildren. We are wrong. We are not free yet.

When we were young,  we were one among many children and we had the responsibility to support our parents until our siblings were married. Our parents might have spent everything on education and wedding expenses and they were gone.

We started our life at around 40. We limited our children to one or two. We gave them professional education and they studied well and got into good jobs. We even constructed a small house and saved something for our retired life.

We got our children married. We led a simple life spending on necessities, avoiding the comforts, and forgetting the luxuries. We managed to live our life until retirement. Our children are earning a good salary and they are happy to take care of us.

Meanwhile, the cost of living has gone up. Lifestyle has changed. Both husband and wife have to work. Credit/debit cards, EMI, Internet, iPhone, sedan, etc. are the order of the day.  They are under stress. It leads to BP, diabetics, migraines, obesity, infertility, depression, etc. Life is not peaceful.

The cost of a flat is one crore. Children's education expenses need one crore. Medical expenses on four parents require one crore. Investment in retired life needs one crore. They have to save five crores in 25 years ie 2 lacs per month. 

We must understand this. We were helping our parents and we have to help our children now. We were simple and economical and we should continue to live like that. That is our life. What to do? IS IT PLEASURE OR PAIN? 

IN PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Whether it is mother, sister, wife, or friend, I am concerned about the well-being of the women. They are the fulcrum of society. One who does not know how to respect women cannot respect anyone. I write this article with this concern in my mind.

Till the beginning of this century,  women were not given their due place. They only played the role of a mother or sister or wife. While the man earned the money, the woman looked after the home. The work was thus shared among them. They got children, brought them up, and lived happy lives. 

The women were timid, shy, passive, and reserved. They were not allowed to mingle with boys. They were restricted to the house.  They were advised to adjust with their husband and not to spoil their marriage as divorce was not accepted by society. The women lived like slaves.

The next generation arrived. The number of children was reduced. The children were well educated. The girls even excelled at the boys. Education was given importance. The outlook of girls and parents changed. The women went for higher studies and took up employment. There was the empowerment of women.

The women were given an equal share in the property. Their salary was more than their father's. The daughter became an important member of the family. According to Dr Lakshmi, a psychologist in Chennai, some women became assertive then authoritative, and aggressive. There was total liberation for women. The parents had difficulty getting a suitable alliance for them.

Meanwhile, liberalization came, foreign goods arrived, greed for such goods developed and the cost of living went up sky high. Lifestyle had changed. There was more demand for luxuries. People spent less on necessities but lavishly on luxuries. There was a competition to live in luxury. To meet this, both the husband and wife had to work.

Women found it difficult to manage both home and work. They expected cooperation from others. Few husbands understood this. Credit/debit cards,  EMI, repayment of loans, etc. had become the daily mantra. Due to stress, women developed problems like BP, diabetics, depression, migraine, obesity, infertility, etc. 

Life is not as peaceful as before. Meanwhile, parents are unable to live independently. They want to settle with the son.  In India, the parents are part of the family. The parents are expected to contribute but they are unable to. Are they to go to old age homes? What is the remedy for these problems?  MAY GOD BLESS YOU.
