It is the duty of the parents to bring up the child from the time they come into their life. They have to nourish the child with food, shelter, clothing, and education. No other person will take such a responsibility.
However, they should not claim any right over the child. Beating, scolding etc are not allowed. It will only lead to negative effect. The children will wait for an opportune time to return it back to them. Some people are of the opinion that it is the bounden duty of the parents to advise their children whenever they find them wrong.
In bringing up children, one should always use the carrots. When they are children, they should be taught about health. When they go to school, about education. When they are adults, about getting into vices. When they get married, about how to live happily. The job is then over and they have to carry on. We cannot carry them on our shoulders indefinitely.
The responsibility of the parent will cease when their children are educated, employed and married. After the marriage, the children become a separate legal entity in which no outsider, including the parents, has any right to interfere, advise, control or condemn. It is the couple who took the marriage vows and not the parents.
A couple after their marriage faces many problems, with the spouse or the parents or the children. It may be physical, financial, emotional, or intellectual. They have to mutually discuss and take a decision together.
If they wish to consult the parents, they can only guide them with their experience but cannot demand its implementation. It is up to the couple to take it or leave it. Such an understanding only will lead to mutual love, respect, and happiness.
