MADURAI OR CHIDAMBARAM?
In earlier days, people used to inquire whether the family is Madurai or Chidambaram. It implies, if it is Madurai, the lady in the family rules and if it is Chidambaram, the man rules.
Whoever rules, the going should be smooth. There is nothing wrong if one of them is submissive. Otherwise, both will be fighting. This is the secret of happy living.
When you fix up the marriage of the daughter or son, this information may be useful.
1. If the wedding is for the daughter, it is advisable to give her in marriage to a Madurai family where the lady rules. There will be a good understanding between the mother in law and the daughter in law. There will be no problem from the father in law as he is submissive.
2. If the wedding is for the son, it is advisable to get the girl from a Chidambaram family where the man rules. There will be a good understanding between the father in law and the son in law. There will be no problem from the mother in law as she is submissive.
N.B. I followed this formula in the case of my children's weddings. How far this formula is successful depends on one's luck.

அந்தக் காலத்தில் " உங்க வீட்டிலே எப்படி மதுரையா, சிதம்பரமா?" என்று கேட்பது வழக்கம். மதுரை என்றால் மனைவியின் ஆட்சி, சிதம்பரம் என்றால் கணவனின் ஆட்சி என்று அர்த்தம்.
யாராவது ஒருவரின் ஆட்சி இருப்பது தான் நல்லது. ஒருவர் பணிந்து போவதில் தவறு ஒன்றும் இல்லை. அப்போதுதான் வாழ்க்கை சுவாரசியமாக இருக்கும். இல்லாவிடில் எப்போதும் சண்டை, சச்சரவு தான்
மகனுக்கோ, மகளுக்கோ திருமணம் செய்யும் போது இந்த விவரம் மிகவும் உபயோகமாக இருக்கும் என்று நான் நினைக்கிறேன்.
1. மகளுக்குத் திருமணம் செய்து கொடுக்கும் போது மதுரையில் கட்டிக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும். அங்கு மாமியார் ஆட்சி நடக்கும். மாமனார் தலையாட்டி பொம்மை. மகனும் அப்படியே. மாமனார் தொந்திரவு இருக்காது. பெண்ணுக்கு மதிப்பு இருக்கும். மாமியாரும் மருமகளும் ஒற்றுமையாக இருப்பார்கள்.
2. மகனுக்கு திருமணம் செய்து கொடுக்கும் போது சிதம்பரத்தில் பெண் எடுக்க வேண்டும். அங்கு மாமனார் ஆட்சி நடக்கும். மாமியார் தலையாட்டி பொம்மை. மகளும் அப்படியே. மாப்பிள்ளைக்கு மதிப்பு இருக்கும். மாமனாருக்கு மாப்பிள்ளையின் எண்ணங்கள் தெரியும். மாமனாரும் மாப்பிள்ளையும் ஒற்றுமையாக இருப்பார்கள்.
பின் குறிப்பு: நான் என் குழந்தைகளுக்குத் திருமணம் செய்யும் போது இந்த பார்முலாவைப் பின் பற்றினேன். இந்த பார்முலா வெற்றி அடைவதோ, தோல்வி அடைவதோ அவரவர் அதிர்ஷ்டத்தைப் பொருத்தது.
