THE UTERUS
In the late 1980s, I worked in a leading chemical company situated in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. The area was serene with a beautiful Vinayakar temple, auditorium, recreation club, etc.
A small dispensary was available within the premises to provide first aid to all the employees. For serious cases, the company had an annual agreement with a hospital in the nearby town.
One day, the wife of a colleague fell sick. She was suffering from acute abdominal pain. Initial treatment at the dispensary had no effect. She was taken to the hospital in the nearby town.
The doctor who attended to her said that her uterus had descended and it should be removed immediately, otherwise it would be dangerous to the patient.
The patient was a well-educated wife of a senior official. Even while she was suffering in pain, she laughed uncontrollably and inquired the doctor where did he study medicine.
The doctor was surprised and answered her. Then he asked her why she was asking. The lady quietly replied that her uterus was already removed two years back.
கர்பப்பை
1980களில், நான் தமிழ் நாட்டின் தென் பகுதியில் உள்ள ஒரு கிராமத்தில் இருக்கும் பெரிய கெமிகல் தொழிற்சாலையில் வேலை பார்த்தேன். ஒரு விநாயகர் கோயில், கலை அரங்கம், பொழுது போக்கு சங்கம் என்று அந்த இடம் மிக அமைதியாக இருக்கும்.
முதலுதவிக்காக ஒரு சிறிய மருத்துவ மனை உண்டு. பெரிய வியாதிகளுக்கு அருகில் உள்ள நகரத்தில் ஒரு பெரிய மருத்துவ மனையுடன் வருட ஒப்பந்தம் உண்டு.
ஒரு நாள் எனது நண்பரின் மனைவிக்கு தீவிர வயிற்று வலி. எந்த முதல் உதவியும் சரியாக வில்லை. அவர்களை பெரிய மருத்துவ மனைக்கு எடுத்துச் சென்றனர்.
அவரைப் பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர், அவருக்கு கர்பப்பை கீழே இறங்கி இருக்கிறது என்றும் உடனே அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்து அதை அகற்ற வேண்டும், இல்லாவிடில் நோயாளிக்கு ஆபத்து என்று கூறினார்.
இதைக் கேட்ட அந்தப் பெண்மணி அந்த வலியிலும், சிறிது புன்முறுவலுடன் மருத்துவரைப் பார்த்து நீங்கள் மருத்துவம் எங்கு படித்ீர்கள் என்று வினவினார்.
அதற்கு பதில் கூறிய மருத்துவர் என் கேட்கிறீர்கள் என்று வினவினார். அதற்கு அந்தப் பெண்மணி, எனக்கு இரண்டு வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பே கர்பப்பை எடுத்தாகி விட்டது என்று சொன்னார்.

அவரைப் பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர், அவருக்கு கர்பப்பை கீழே இறங்கி இருக்கிறது என்றும் உடனே அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்து அதை அகற்ற வேண்டும், இல்லாவிடில் நோயாளிக்கு ஆபத்து என்று கூறினார்.
இதைக் கேட்ட அந்தப் பெண்மணி அந்த வலியிலும், சிறிது புன்முறுவலுடன் மருத்துவரைப் பார்த்து நீங்கள் மருத்துவம் எங்கு படித்ீர்கள் என்று வினவினார்.
அதற்கு பதில் கூறிய மருத்துவர் என் கேட்கிறீர்கள் என்று வினவினார். அதற்கு அந்தப் பெண்மணி, எனக்கு இரண்டு வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பே கர்பப்பை எடுத்தாகி விட்டது என்று சொன்னார்.
