Five types of Yajnas

The five types of yajna are:


Brahma yajna
A study of the Vedas, meditation, and yoga discipline to achieve enlightenment and realize Brahman. It is also known as Veda Yajna, which means "homage to Brahman or the Vedas or the sages". 

Deva yajna
A ritual where a person offers uncooked ghee, milk, grains, and soma to the gods. It is also known as "homage to Gods and elementals". 

Pithru yajna
A ritual where a person presents pinda to ancestors. It is also known as "homage to ancestors". 

Bhuta yajna
A ritual where a person feeds animals, birds, and spiritual beings. It is also known as "homage to beings". 

Manushya yajna
A ritual where a person assists and feeds the guests, impoverished, hungry, and homeless. It is also known as "homage to men".
