TRAVELLING TO THE USA.

Guidelines for travel to the US: ( for new comers only) 


1. You will have to obtain a passport from the ministry of external affairs. This is valid for 10 years. 


2. Then you will have to apply for a tourist visa from the US embassy. This is also valid for 10 years. The visa is printed in the passport itself. 


3. You will have to approach the airlines or their agents to get the tickets. 


4. You can stay in the US for a maximum of six calendar months. The best time is between May and October.  


5. The airlines allow two baggages weighing maximum of 23 kgs each as check-in baggage to be carried by the airlines. (This varies from airline to airline) 


6. You are also allowed to carry inside the aircraft called carry-on baggage weighing up to 7 kgs. Ladies are allowed one hand bag extra. 


7. You are not allowed to carry any dangerous items that are prohibited by the airline and mentioned in their website. 


8. On the travel day, you will go to the airline counter at the airport three hours before departure to check in. You will handover the two check-in baggages to them and obtain two boarding passes. ( one for departure point and another for transit point) 


9. The boarding pass contains the flight details, the gate number from which the flight will take off, and your seat number. (For transit details you will have to get it at the transit airport)  


10. After checking in, you will proceed to the immigration office and produce your ticket and passport. They will stamp the date and allow you to leave the country. 


11. Then you will go to the security checkpoint and get all your cabin baggage etc checked. If the check-in baggages contain any prohibited items, you will be called to explain. 


12. Then you will go to the respective gate and board the plane when allowed. There is no direct flight to the US. You will have to find out the transit point and change another aircraft. 


13. After landing in the US, you will proceed to the immigration office and produce your passport and visa. They will stamp your passport for a stay of six months after asking a few questions. 


14. Finally, you can collect your baggage from the conveyor belt and leave the airport. 


15. The same procedure is repeated (in the reverse) while returning. (Any point missed may be added)
