There are many reasons attributed to the dark colour of Lord Krishna. Actually, it is bluish-black.
1. Since Lord Krishna was the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu, he looks dark in colour.
2. Lord Krishna turned dark only after drinking the milk of demon Putana.
3. The river Yamuna that flowed adjacent to Vrindavan harbored a five-headed snake. While fighting the snake, the Lord was exposed to the snake’s venom, which made his ski turn bluish-black in colour.
4. However, It is believed that within Lord Krishna there lay a cosmic strength that is invisible to the mortal eyes. Hence his body appears bluish-black in colour.
3. The term Krishna means Black. Both Rama and Krishna are the Avatars of Vishnu. Then why the difference in skin tone? Vishnu appears as, in

Blue-black, With Peethamabra, Sri Vatsa,, Chank(Conch),Chakra, Gatha.
